Aunque no haya sido una actividad extracurricular típica, el proyecto extraescolar de Angela Zhang, de 17 años, podría cambiar el mundo. Zhang ha sido noticia recientemente tras ganar un cheque de 100.000 dólares del concurso nacional de ciencias de Siemens , y ahora se ha sugerido que su investigación podría conducir a una posible cura para el cáncer.
"Creé una nanopartícula que es como una navaja suiza para el tratamiento del cáncer, ya que puede detectar células cancerosas, erradicarlas y luego monitorear la respuesta al tratamiento. Así que el objetivo principal del proyecto era personalizar la medicina oncológica", declaró Zhang a ABC News.
La adolescente empezó a leer trabajos de doctorado sobre bioingeniería en primer año. Admitió que al principio le resultó un poco abrumador, pero enseguida le cogió el truco, y para el penúltimo año, el resto era historia.
"Me entusiasma aprender todo lo posible", dijo Zhang en una entrevista en video con CBS News . "Todo lo relacionado con las ciencias: biología, química, física, ingeniería e incluso informática, para hacer posibles nuevas innovaciones".

This is the down side of the path that capitalism walks, we need to create win/win by getting the private banking system out of the money making monopoly that is at the root of our win/lose, winner take all mindset. We need to prevent this dis-ease and others from establishing themselves in our bodies and stop treating our bodies, our environment, air, water soil as dumpsters. Nano tech is a wild card that we need to treat with respect, when will we ever learn?
Nano-tech is bad. It is great this young girl wants to find the cure. Her passions about it is great. But what she is creating is dangerous. Lifestyle changes are the cure. I agree with Arlene.
The cause and cure of cancer is already known. It does not need drugs. Eradicating cancer cells without a lifestyle/diet change may not last long. Cancer cells are acid..they do not live in an alkaline body. Read "Never Fear Cancer Again" by Raymond Francis.
