ホセ・アルベルト・グティエレスは、コロンビアのボゴタで彼が支援してきた何千人もの本好きの子供たちから「本の王様」として知られている。
月曜日に公開されたAJ+の動画に登場するこのゴミ収集作業員は、裕福な地域から捨てられた本を集め、自宅に作った臨時の図書館に収蔵している。2 万冊を超える蔵書は、彼が週末に暮らす低所得者層の地域の子供たちに開放されている。
「これはすべての地域、すべての地域の隅々、すべての町、すべての県、そしてすべての農村地域に必要だ」とグティエレス氏は2015年にAP通信に語った。 「本は私たちの救いであり、コロンビアに必要なものだ。」
AP通信によると、グティエレス氏は20年前に廃棄された本の回収を始めた。彼は、経済的に学校に通わせる余裕がなかったにもかかわらず、毎晩彼に本を読んでくれた母親のおかげで今の活動が始まったと語っている。

今や彼の家のどの部屋も本であふれかえっており、1階は「言葉の力」と名付けられた地域図書館となっている。
