I've felt a bit lost lately and your story arrived at just the right time! Thank you for the reminder that it can take time. Thank you for reminding us of how "Calls" unfold when we lean into them, how the universe conspires to help us, yes, even when the Call might require years to come together like Holomovement did. Yet, at the same time, so many threads appear to weave that tapestry together so The Call can become tangible.
I've had several experiences in life thus far (I'm 59) when Calls have presented themselves and I have followed. A thread through all of them is being of service through Story creating connection and healing. In 2005, I sold my house and possessions to create/facilitate a volunteer literacy project in Belize (this was upon an invitation from a Belizean during a snorkeling excursion). That invitation turned into so many moments of the universe responding. Same happened with Storytelling and bridging across differences. I am so grateful to have been the 1st American Storyteller included in the Kanoon International Storytelling Festival in Iran 2015. I mourn for what is currently happening.
The next Call was to change the Stories told by and at The World Bank. I had heard about good intentions, but often exclusion of local knowledge and wisdom. The Universe connected responded by ensuring I said Yes to participating in a Healing Arts Networking event where in attendance there was a World Bank staff member working in Leadership, Learning and Innovation. He liked my Storytelling presentation on connecting across culture/seeking understanding and breaking stereotypes. He asked me to send in my CV. I was hired as a Storytelling Consultant 48 hours later! I served for 11 years assisting staff to tell a more human centered, less cold clinical data story and to consider opening up whom they invited to the table.
The most recent Call was therapeutic work with survivors of abuse. The universe introduced me in 2019 to Therese who told me about Narrative Therapy Practices. I got my Masters in Narrative Therapy and Community work 2021 and am grateful to be in service to not only survivors of abuse, also people who are caught up in narratives in which they are not seeing their depth of skills, abilities and ways of staying alive. It is profound work! I'm also serving in theatre and Storytelling with youth.
What a ride! I've felt a bit lost lately and your story arrived at just the right time! Thank you for the reminder that it can take time.
