据《中国日报》报道，余先生为了养活自己和年幼的儿子，以务农为生。自去年九月以来，余先生每天早上五点起床，为儿子准备午餐，然后将身高约90厘米的小强放在背上的篮子里。
父子俩每天跋涉4.5英里（约7公里）穿越崎岖的地形去上学，然后余先生再步行回家去工作。这位尽职尽责的父亲之后会去学校接儿子，然后背着他一路回家——据CEN报道，全程18英里（约29公里）。
这位单身父亲估计，自从开始送儿子上学以来，他已经走了大约 1600 英里。
“我知道我儿子身体残疾，但他智力正常，”他告诉CEN。“然而，我在这里找不到任何一所具备接收他的设施的学校，而且屡屡遭到拒绝。”
