While I think it would be the cruelest thing in the world to send Ester back to the farm "after" she has known such love. I feel that the clear distinction is that pigs born raised and slaughtered on farms don't read, watch TV, or ever know anything else. If a human being was born and raised in zero gravity then brought to earth they would suffer intensely from the weight of an atmosphere they've never known. Then it would become the new normal and not hurt as bad except for the memories and reminders. For those who can read this story and become vegetarian, I congratulate you. For everyone else I think we need to get a plan together to phase out unnecessary farming with futuristic farming that is more realistic than expecting a cute pig 🐷 to motivate the whole world. We can change the world one step at a time. This story is a step in the right direction. I'm glad I read it.
