I think in pictures. Words are like a second language to me. --Dr. Temple Grandin

Thinking Outside the Human Mind:
Dr. Temple Grandin is one of the most fascinating and respected figures in the world today. As a child whose parents almost sent her to a mental institution, Grandin became the first autistic individual to publish an autobiography. She has utterly transformed how we view people with autism and how we treat animals, specifically in the cattle industry. She explains to us what it is like for her to live in this world, having an autistic mind, and how it helps her relate to animals. "We need all kinds of minds" and beautiful things happen when we make an effort to see what others see. [more]

Dr. Temple Grandin is an incredibly fascinating woman!  If you haven't seen it, you must see the movie about her, called TEMPLE GRANDIN, which was originally shown on HBO.  It is out on video and via On Demand from your cable company.  This is a MUST SEE if you know of a person with Autism, or suspect that a person may have Autistic tendencies.  I found this helpful in dealing with my older brother--now that I understand what is going on, I have new strategies to deal with his communication style.  We used to have friction between us, but since I have changed how I interact with him, we get along much better.

Dr. Grandin, THANK YOU for sharing your story with the world!

I first came to know of Dr. Grandin through NPR's This I Believe series. How she sees the world and how she draws satisfaction from her work, in her own words:
