Un hombre de 51 años regresa a casa de sus padres para que una familia sin hogar pueda vivir en su casa.
La oferta de Tony Tolbert es válida por un año completo. Según CBS, la habitación libre de su casa de la infancia en Los Ángeles solía ir a parar a personas necesitadas, lo que inspiró su propia versión del acto.
"No tienes que ser Bill Gates, Warren Buffett u Oprah", declaró Tolbert, abogado egresado de Harvard, a CBS en el video de arriba. "Podemos hacerlo dondequiera que estemos, con lo que tengamos , y en mi caso, tengo un hogar que puedo ofrecer".
Tolbert nunca había conocido a los beneficiarios. Los encontró a través de Alexandria House, un albergue para mujeres y niños. Felicia Dukes, madre de cuatro hijos, no podía creer la oferta cuando la escuchó.
"Tenían un joven que quería donarte su casa por un año", recordó Dukes. "Y yo la miraba como si dijera: '¿Qué? ¿En serio?'"
Según la cadena de noticias, ella y tres de sus hijos compartían una habitación individual en el refugio, cuyas normas impedían que su hijo adulto se uniera a ellos. Ahora están juntos de nuevo.
CBS informó que todos llegaron a la casa de Tolbert, que permanecerá completamente amueblada durante su estancia. En el video, Dukes expresa su gratitud entre lágrimas.
"Mi corazón simplemente se llena y esas cosas, eh... estoy realmente feliz", dijo Dukes.
La historia llega días después de que escribiéramos sobre Grace McNulty, quien, al igual que Tolbert, encontró en su padre la inspiración para ayudar a las personas sin hogar. Él falleció en agosto, por lo que McNulty, de 10 años, pasó la Navidad sirviendo cenas de pavo a personas sin hogar, cumpliendo su deseo de aliviar su sufrimiento durante las fiestas.
Además, un barbero de Salt Lake City lleva 19 años ayudando a personas sin hogar. Todos los lunes, ofrece cortes de pelo gratuitos para mejorar su imagen o impulsar su búsqueda de empleo.

Funny how the news anchor at the end says, "What a small gesture." I don't think giving your house to someone to live in with their family for a year is a small gesture.
That was so amazing - bless him, and bless that new family to whom he gave an incredible opportunity. At first I didn't want to read the story because it was like "oh, another superman with an impossibly big heart"... and in many ways he is that, but not in a discouraging way: he's an inspiration. If we all just give in the ways that we can and that make sense to us, then we really can help make the world a better place :)
I'd like to throw in my friend chappette. Several years she would feed, clothe and give haircuts to as many homeless people as she could. She has always been an inspiration to me and her generosity is always genuine and heartfelt. I wish more people would understand that not everyone in that situation is there because they're lazy or trying to cheat the system. They really need help...
