Un uomo di 51 anni torna a vivere con i suoi genitori per far sì che una famiglia senza fissa dimora possa vivere nella sua casa.
L'offerta di Tony Tolbert è valida per un anno intero. Secondo la CBS, la camera degli ospiti nella sua casa d'infanzia a Los Angeles veniva spesso assegnata a persone bisognose, il che ha ispirato la sua versione dell'iniziativa.
"Non serve essere Bill Gates, Warren Buffet o Oprah", ha detto Tolbert, avvocato laureato ad Harvard, alla CBS nel video qui sopra. "Possiamo farcela ovunque siamo, con quello che abbiamo , e io ho una casa che posso mettere a disposizione."
Tolbert non aveva mai incontrato i beneficiari. Li aveva trovati tramite Alexandria House, un rifugio per donne e bambini. Felicia Dukes, madre di quattro figli, non riusciva a credere a quell'affare quando ne venne a conoscenza.
"C'era un ragazzo che voleva donarti la loro casa per un anno", ha ricordato Dukes. "E io la guardavo e le dicevo: cosa? Tipo... dici sul serio?"
Secondo l'emittente televisiva, lei e tre dei suoi figli condividevano una stanza singola nel rifugio, le cui regole impedivano al figlio adulto di unirsi a loro. Ora sono di nuovo insieme.
La CBS ha riferito che sono tutti arrivati a casa di Tolbert, che rimarrà completamente arredata per tutta la durata del loro soggiorno. Nel video, Dukes esprime la sua gratitudine in lacrime.
"Il mio cuore si riempie e tutto il resto, uhm... sono davvero felice", ha detto Dukes.
La storia arriva pochi giorni dopo che abbiamo scritto di Grace McNulty, che come Tolbert, ha trovato ispirazione per aiutare i senzatetto in suo padre . Lui è morto ad agosto, e così McNulty, 10 anni, ha trascorso il giorno di Natale servendo pranzi completi a base di tacchino ai senzatetto, onorando il suo desiderio di alleviare le loro sofferenze durante le feste.
Inoltre, un barbiere di Salt Lake City aiuta i senzatetto da 19 anni . Ogni lunedì, offre tagli di capelli gratuiti per migliorare il loro look o per dare una spinta alla ricerca di lavoro.

Funny how the news anchor at the end says, "What a small gesture." I don't think giving your house to someone to live in with their family for a year is a small gesture.
That was so amazing - bless him, and bless that new family to whom he gave an incredible opportunity. At first I didn't want to read the story because it was like "oh, another superman with an impossibly big heart"... and in many ways he is that, but not in a discouraging way: he's an inspiration. If we all just give in the ways that we can and that make sense to us, then we really can help make the world a better place :)
I'd like to throw in my friend chappette. Several years she would feed, clothe and give haircuts to as many homeless people as she could. She has always been an inspiration to me and her generosity is always genuine and heartfelt. I wish more people would understand that not everyone in that situation is there because they're lazy or trying to cheat the system. They really need help...
