एशियन एज की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, 30 साल से भी पहले, जादव "मोलाई" पायेंग नाम के एक किशोर ने भारत के असम क्षेत्र में अपने जन्मस्थान के पास एक बंजर रेतीले टीले पर बीज बोना शुरू किया था।
यह सन् 1979 की बात है, जब बाढ़ के कारण बड़ी संख्या में सांप रेत के टीले पर आ गए थे। जब पायेंग - जो उस समय केवल 16 वर्ष की थीं - ने उन्हें पाया, तो वे सभी मर चुके थे।
"पेड़ों की छाया न होने के कारण भीषण गर्मी में सांप मर गए। मैं बैठ गई और उनके बेजान शरीरों को देखकर रोने लगी," पायेंग ने टाइम्स ऑफ इंडिया को बताया।
"यह एक भयानक मंजर था। मैंने वन विभाग को सूचना दी और उनसे पूछा कि क्या वे वहां पेड़ उगा सकते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि वहां कुछ भी नहीं उगेगा। इसके बजाय, उन्होंने मुझे बांस उगाने की कोशिश करने को कहा। यह दर्दनाक था, लेकिन मैंने कर दिखाया। मेरी मदद करने वाला कोई नहीं था," उन्होंने अखबार को बताया।
अब वह कभी बंजर रेतीला टीला 1,360 एकड़ में फैला एक विशाल जंगल बन गया है, जो कई हजार किस्मों के पेड़ों और वन्यजीवों की आश्चर्यजनक विविधता का घर है - जिसमें पक्षी, हिरण, बंदर, गैंडे, हाथी और यहां तक कि बाघ भी शामिल हैं।
इस जंगल को, इसके निर्माता के उपनाम के बाद "मोलाई वुड्स" नाम दिया गया है, जिसे अकेले एक व्यक्ति - पायेंग ने लगाया और विकसित किया था, जिनकी उम्र अब 47 वर्ष है।
एशियन एज के अनुसार , पायेंग ने अपना जीवन जंगल के संरक्षण और विकास के लिए समर्पित कर दिया है। एकांत जीवन को अपनाते हुए, उन्होंने किशोरावस्था में ही रेतीले टीले पर अकेले रहना शुरू कर दिया था और अपना दिन बढ़ते हुए पौधों की देखभाल में बिताते थे।
आज भी पायेंग जंगल में ही रहते हैं। वे अपनी पत्नी और तीन बच्चों के साथ एक छोटी सी झोपड़ी में रहते हैं और गाय-भैंस का दूध बेचकर अपना जीवन यापन करते हैं। सहायक वन संरक्षक, गुनीन सैकिया के अनुसार, यह संभवतः नदी के बीचोंबीच स्थित दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा जंगल है।
"रेत के टीले पर इतना घना जंगल देखकर हम आश्चर्यचकित रह गए," सैकिया ने टाइम्स ऑफ इंडिया को बताया, और कहा कि क्षेत्र के अधिकारियों को पायेंग के जंगल के बारे में 2008 में ही पता चला था।
अंततः, पायेंग को वह मदद और पहचान मिल सकती है जिसके वह हकदार हैं।
"स्थानीय लोग जंगल काटना चाहते थे, लेकिन पायेंग ने उन्हें चुनौती दी कि वे उसे मार डालें। वह पेड़ों और जानवरों को अपने बच्चों की तरह मानता है। यह देखकर हमने भी मदद करने का फैसला किया," साइकिया ने कहा।

This man has more will than any one i have recently read about!! He is more powerful than our President and Prime Minister who cannot even have an hecter of land protected. He "Jadav "Molai" Payeng" should be our Minister of Agriculture and Forest as the current one in place have no clue of what a plant is...!! Our prime minister should have him in the ministry asap. The harvest one reaps each day is the fruits of the past which were planted by one in the past. The seed one plants in one's inner mechanism of mind, body and speech after tasting the fruits will be the fruit of the future. The seed that relates to mankind are the likes and dislikes. A like seed will result in a sweet fruit and a dislike seed will result in a bitter fruit.
e.g. of a seed: Have you have the following projection (seed) after tasting the fruit of hurting, causing someone to hurt or supporting someone hurting even slightly the ego of any living being?
I a total of 9 test of which one can see the seed's which are planted in one's life on a continuously.
