Jis – pasaulio rekordą laikantis sprinteris iš Pietų Afrikos Respublikos. Ji – drąsi penkiametė iš Esekso, Anglijos. Įkvepiančioje nuotraukų serijoje, kuri neseniai išplito internete, du nepažįstamieji, kuriuos vienija tik atkaklus atsisakymas leisti dvigubai amputacijai juos sustabdyti, lenktyniauja draugiškose bioninėse bėgimo lenktynėse.
25 metų Oscarui „Blade Runner“ Pistoriusui buvo vos 11 mėnesių, kai gydytojai nustatė, kad jis neturi šeivikaulių, todėl teko amputuoti abi kojas žemiau kelių. Ellie May Challis neteko abiejų rankų ir kojų būdama 16 mėnesių, susirgusi sunkia meningito forma.
Nors Ellie iš pradžių buvo įdėti standartiniai protezai, mažyliui buvo sunku su jais vaikščioti. Sudėtingesnės anglies pluošto kojelės – tokias, kokias nešiojo Pistorious – buvo brangios, tačiau Ellie bendruomenė susibūrė už ją ir surinko 15 000 dolerių, reikalingų protezams. 2009 m. penkerių metų mergaitė tapo jauniausiu asmeniu, kuriam kada nors buvo įdėti anglies pluošto protezai.
Enfildo, Šiaurės Londono, uždaroje trasoje vykusiose varžybose mažoji Ellie įveikė čempionę sprinterę visose keturiose jų 15 metrų bėgimo rungtyse, o jos sesuo dvynė Sophie ir vyresni broliai bei seserys Taila bei Connor džiaugsmingai laikėsi.
Istoriniu pranešimu Pistorious, kuris bėgioja naudodamas specialias „Cheetah Flex Foot“ galūnes, gavo leidimą varžytis 2012 m. Londono olimpinėse žaidynėse, panaikinant Sporto arbitražo teismo draudimą. Tarptautinė lengvosios atletikos asociacija (TAA) buvo nusprendusi, kad Pistorious negali dalyvauti žaidynėse, nes jo „Flex Foot“ galūnės suteikia nesąžiningą pranašumą. Tačiau teismas, prieš priimdamas Pistorious palankų sprendimą, peržiūrėjo dviejų naujų (ir prieštaringų) tyrimų duomenis .
Pistorious sekmadienį pateko į 400 metrų bėgimo pusfinalį, bet į finalą nepateko. Jo laikas – 46,54 sekundės – buvo dviem sekundėmis lėtesnis nei plaukimo nugalėtojo, dabartinio pasaulio čempiono Kirani Jameso iš Grenados. Parodydamas pagarbą ir sportinę dvasią, Jamesas po lenktynių apkabino Pistorious ir paprašė apsikeisti numeriais.
„ Aš jį matau kaip dar vieną atletą, dar vieną varžovą “, – dieną prieš pusfinalį žurnalistams sakė Jamesas. „Dar svarbiau, kad jį matau kaip kitą žmogų. Jis yra žmogus, kuriuo žaviuosi ir gerbiu.“
Savo ruožtu, interviu laidoje „TODAY“ Pistorious teigė, kad brangins savo olimpinius prisiminimus „visą likusį gyvenimą“. Jo 89 metų močiutei stebint iš tribūnų, Pistorious sakė: „Girdėti minios riaumojimą ir žinoti, kad už manęs yra tiek daug žmonių, tapo dar maloniau“.

You could see in these pictures that Oscar not ony made Ellie very happy but he also felt the happiness that her beautiful smile gave him.
