「Revolution for Change」のきっかけは、デイビッド氏がYouTubeで「エル・システマ」の動画を見つけた時でした。エル・システマとは、オーケストラと合唱団を活用して低所得のバリオのコミュニティを変革するベネズエラのオーケストラシステムです。 デイビッド氏をさらに感動させたのは、約40年前、「ベネズエラ人がオーケストラで演奏するなんてありえない!クラシック音楽は西洋で演奏されるべきものだ」という共通の認識があったことです。これに対し、ある男性が駐車場に11人の子供たちを集め、音楽を社会変革の手段として活用するというビジョンを描きました。エル・システマは現在、ベネズエラで最も恵まれない50万人以上の子供たちに音楽を教えています。
ボストンに戻った後、デイビッドは「卵を売る」方法を見つけました。アパートをまた貸しし、生計を立てるために地下鉄で演奏を始めました。教師たちと共に、文字通りお金はないものの、強いビジョンを掲げ、ロクスベリーで「Revolution of Hope」を立ち上げました。彼らは、デイビッドの学校に場所を提供してくれる、共感的な校長先生に出会いました。その恩恵として、学校は音楽の魔法に恵まれました。次に、地元の音楽大学が、スラム街の若者のために喜んで楽器を寄付してくれました。そしてついに、学ぶ意欲を持つティーンエイジャーのグループと出会いました。 残されたのは、生活費を賄う方法を見つけることだけだった。ボストンの地下鉄でクラシック音楽を演奏することは、デイビッドにとってまさに鶏が先か卵が先かという物語だった。彼と先生たちは、移動中の人々に音楽を伝え続け、彼らの日々を明るくしながら「希望の革命」を支え続けている。

Giving your life away through whatever gift you've been given; and we've All been given a gift of some kind or another, it is the Giving Away that sometimes is difficult for some people. My gift is Story and I too, gave it away. In 2005, I sold my small home and most of my possessions to use Story to serve others. It started in Belize with a volunteer literacy project and has taken me to inner city and poor rural areas of the US and to Kenya, Ghana and Haiti. The work has evolved from training teachers how to use their own indigenous stories so they could use their own culture to teach creative writing to currently serving people from all walks of life in the developing to share their life stories of resilience, innovation and entrepreneurship to break stereotypes and chance the pity/poverty model to the Potential and Possibility Model.
