El gran maestro zen Thich Nhat Hanh ha escrito con gran maestría sobre por qué aprender a amar a los demás empieza por aprender a amarnos a nosotros mismos. Esta idea, que el cínico moderno, reactivo, podría descartar como material vacío de libros de autoayuda, resulta profundamente cierta y profundamente incómoda tras una reflexión más profunda. ¿Qué significa, después de todo, amarse a uno mismo, sobre todo si aspiramos a ser generosos y desinteresados, y a superar la ilusoria cáscara del ego que llamamos «yo» ?
Eso es lo que el poeta y dramaturgo caribeño Derek Walcott (nacido el 23 de enero de 1930) —un escritor de una destreza poética tan extraordinaria que su Premio Nobel de Literatura de 1992 parece una medida totalmente inadecuada de su maestría y su hipnotismo— aborda con un brillo luminoso y lateral en un poema titulado “Amor después del amor”, que se encuentra en sus Collected Poems: 1948–1984 ( biblioteca pública ).
En un episodio de archivo de On Being titulado "Abriendo nuestras vidas", el pionero de la atención plena Jon Kabat-Zinn lee la obra maestra de Walcott, sin duda uno de los poemas más grandiosos y conmovedores jamás escritos. Disfruten:

Is it possible to find the credit for the photo of the labyrinth by the sea that illustrates the soundcloud reading of the poem? I hope to find out more about where that photo was taken, and if it is possible to visit that location. Thanks

Great site. Look forward to the daily post. Only to add (if it doesn't, delete) to the front page quote by Shakyamuni Buddha it's interesting that it's a transliteration of the Pali Canon:
Searching all directions
with one’s awareness,
one finds no one dearer
than oneself.
In the same way, others
are fiercely dear to themselves.
So one should not hurt others
if one loves oneself.
The subtle difference is that self-hate is pretty much unknown outside the West. Thank you.
