成功独处的能力

雪莉·特克尔:独处的能力,就是充分了解自己、认识自己,并能坦然接受自己的能力。这样,当你与他人相处时,就不会试图把对方变成你需要的样子,以此来支撑自己脆弱的自我认知。​​你可以真正地把对方当作一个独立的个体来看待,并与他们建立真正的关系。

现在,那些做不到这一点的人,就会成为那种没人愿意与之相处的人,因为当你看到他们走过来时,就知道他们会利用你来让自己感觉不那么孤独。这些人非常孤独,因为他们无法建立人际关系。他们把别人当作备用零件。

维系一段关系的能力需要具备真正独处的能力。一个成功的童年带来的馈赠之一,就是培养这种独处的能力。而看似矛盾的是,这种能力恰恰来自于照护者的陪伴,他们既要陪伴你,又要留出一些私人空间。

我记得小时候和奶奶一起去布鲁克林的梅西百货散步。我们总是静静地待在一起。偶尔会说几句话,但我们只是并肩而坐,各自沉浸在自己的思绪中,偶尔分享一下想法。你知道,在你学习独立思考的过程中,有人在守护着你。人们对这种陪伴有很多不同的理解:一起缝纫、读书、玩耍,或者给孩子洗澡,让他们拥有独处的时光。这些是童年里孩子们不会被遗弃的时刻,他们学会了如何与自己相处。这种能力意味着,当他们将来建立其他关系时,他们能够成功地处理这些关系。相反,如果你把他们放在一个带有iPad、iPhone或笔记本电脑插槽的婴儿摇椅里,他们就会不断地被其​​他外在事物所映照,而无法回归自我,无法拥有自己的资源、自己的思想和想象力。

有一个很棒的观点:你必须明白,环境中最重要的东西其实是你自己的内心。如果你始终不明白这一点,那就太糟糕了。

A great reminder. And also keep in mind that many of us came from childhoods where abandonment was very real and we did not have healthy protection or we were the ones serving our parents as parents, so that being said for some it is a longer journey to finding oneself in solitude and being healthy in it. i am grateful that though a lot of work on myself and in surrounding myself with good friends, I made that journey. Good reminder. Seems a bit sad though. I think another part is once you have learned this gift, that you share it with those who are struggling to find themselves. Pay it forward. That individual is still a person and you will grow even more by finding compassion to help another.
