'New Day's Lyrics'

Nawa'y ito na ang araw

Magkasama tayo.

Pagluluksa, kami ay dumating upang ayusin,

Natuyo, dumating tayo sa panahon,

Napunit, dumating kami upang mag-asikaso,

Battered, dumating kami sa mas mahusay.

Pinagtali sa taong ito ng pananabik,

Kami ay natututo

Na kahit hindi tayo handa para dito,

Pinaghandaan na kami nito.

Panay ang panata namin na hindi mahalaga

Kung paano tayo binibigatan,

Dapat tayong palaging maghanda ng isang paraan pasulong.

Ang pag-asa na ito ang ating pintuan, ang ating portal.

Kahit na hindi na tayo bumalik sa dati,

Balang araw maaari tayong makipagsapalaran sa kabila nito,

Upang iwanan ang kilala at gawin ang mga unang hakbang.

Kaya wag na tayong bumalik sa dati,

Ngunit umabot sa kung ano ang susunod.

Kung ano ang isinumpa, ating gagamutin.

Kung ano ang sinalot, patunayan nating wagas.

Kung saan tayo madalas na magtalo, susubukan nating sumang-ayon,

Yaong mga kapalaran na ating isinumpa, ngayon ang hinaharap na ating nakikita,

Kung saan hindi natin namamalayan, gising na tayo;

Yung mga sandaling na-miss natin

Ngayon ba ang mga sandaling ito ay ginagawa natin,

Sa mga sandaling tayo'y magkakilala,

At ang ating mga puso, na minsang tumibok,

Ngayon lahat ng sama-sama matalo.

Halika, tumingin nang may kabaitan,

Sapagkat kahit na ang kaginhawahan ay maaaring pagmulan ng kalungkutan.

Naaalala natin, hindi lamang para sa kapakanan ng kahapon,

Ngunit upang kunin bukas.

Pinakikinggan natin ang matandang espiritung ito,

Sa bagong araw na liriko,

Sa ating mga puso, naririnig natin ito:

Para sa auld lang syne, mahal ko,

Para sa auld lang syne.

Maging matapang, kumanta ng Oras ngayong taon,

Maging matapang, kumanta ng Oras,

Sapagkat kapag pinarangalan mo ang kahapon,

Bukas mahahanap mo.

Alamin kung ano ang pinag-awayan natin

Hindi kailangang kalimutan o para sa wala.

Tinutukoy tayo nito, nagbubuklod sa atin bilang isa,

Halika, sumali sa araw na ito na kasisimula pa lang.

Dahil kahit saan tayo magtagpo,

Magtatagumpay tayo.

Ms. Gorman's poem is beautiful and inspiring. Two of our students recited the poem for our school's Black History Chapel. The did a wonderful job.

I didn’t want to get out of bed today; Christmas Eve. Thus year my husband died unexpectedly and I was diagnosed with breast cancer. But this…this gorgeous poem inspires me to reach and grow and yse what was to create what might be. I’m so grateful to have come across it.

Amanda Gorman is one of the millions of young folks that we old folks need to pay attention to and learn from. I hear people saying young people know nothing, which shows simply how little we know.
